STATEMENT OF MISSION AND PURPOSE

It is the purpose of Life Perspectives to provide as many people as possible with positive encouragement and insight from a distinctively Christian-based perspective. Life Perspectives is committed to the historic evangelical Christian faith as reflected in the doctrinal statement of Dallas Theological Seminary, from which Don Hawkins is a graduate.

Christians in today's world face pressing, complex problems. Housewives turn to "legal substance abuse", husbands experience burnout or mid-life crisis, families wrestle with financial issues, marriages disintegrate because of communication difficulties, and Christians struggle to take advantage of witnessing opportunites. Life Perspectives provides listeners with valuable expertise to help deal with these and other issues.

This "live" weeknight call-in program provides insight for the mind and encouragement for the heart from respected Christian authorities. Its late evening format grabs listener attention, holds listener loyalty, ministers to listener needs, and builds station ratings! One station reported the Life Perspectives hour rated second highest of the entire broadcast day according to a major ratings service - remarkable in light of its late evening airtime.

When Don Hawkins left the Minirth-Meier Clinic in 1989, he sensed a need for a call-in ministry with a broader focus to provide insight on issues ranging from marriage and family to finances, from witnessing and missions to developing leadership skills, as well as dealing with depression and addictions.

The program signed on the USA Radio Network April 30, 1991 in a late-afternoon time slot. Response from station managers indicated a programming void in the late evening, and the broadcast moved to the 10-10:55 p.m. (Central) time slot in January 1992.

Over the years, the program has dealt with a wide range of issues including spouse abuse, family budgeting, AIDS, blended families, cults, personality types, and serious illnesses such as cancer. Evangelism is also an important distinctive - over eighty individuals have prayed to receive Christ on the air.

According to host Don Hawkins, "A program like Life Perspectives cannot meet every need of every hurting person. What we can do is offer compassionate encouragement, biblical insight and hope."
